PELLA, Iowa — Nebraska Wesleyan baseball battled through a marathon doubleheader against Central College on Saturday, securing a split with a 10-7 win in the opener before falling 7-6 in a tight second game. The Prairie Wolves (18-14, 7-9 A-R-C) saw senior Carter Betts eclipse 100 career hits in the victory. Betts also broke school records for triples in a season (8) and career (12).
How It Happened – Game 1 (NWU 10, Central 7)
The Prairie Wolves' offense erupted for five runs in the sixth inning to break open a 4-3 game. Betts led the charge, finishing 4-for-6 with two triples, two RBI, and two runs scored. His second triple in the sixth drove in two, capping a record breaking day at the plate.
Nick Roghair opened the scoring with a solo homer in the third, while Jake Gerardis delivered two RBI singles. Theo Hughes (W, 3-1) gave NWU six strong innings, striking out six and allowing just three runs before the bullpen held off a late Central rally.
The Dutch made it interesting in the ninth, launching a three-run homer, but Max Brammier shut the door with a strikeout to strand the tying run on deck.
How It Happened – Game 2 (Central 7, NWU 6)
A back-and-forth battle saw NWU rally from an early 6-3 deficit, scoring two in the eighth on an RBI double from Tommy Fiocchi, and an RBI single from Jake Shedarowich.
Fiocchi, Duncan Ortega, and Brayden Harvey all had multi-hit games in the loss.
