Prairie Wolves Split Doubleheader, Clinch Series Against Simpson

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Wesleyan split a home doubleheader with Simpson on Tuesday, dropping the opener 5-1 before holding on for a 5-3 win in the nightcap. The Prairie Wolves (19-14, 8-10 A-R-C) clinched the series after winning Game 1 last week.

How It Happened

Game 1: Simpson 5, NWU 1
NWU scratched across an unearned run in the second when Carter Betts' RBI grounder plated Jack Carver. Simpson responded with five unanswered, capitalizing on two Prairie Wolves errors. Starter Connor Burress (0-2) allowed one earned run over 2.2 innings, but Simpson's shortstop delivered a two-RBI double in the seventh to seal it.

Game 2: NWU 5, Simpson 3
Duncan Ortega ignited the offense, driving in Betts with an RBI single in the first. Tommy Fiocchi singled and scored on Aaron Chazin's single in the second, and NWU blew it open in the third. Fiocchi's RBI fielder's choice and Jake Gerardis' RBI groundout made it 4-0 before Jake Shedarowich's RBI double capped the rally.

Robbie Ross (1-2) dominated early, carrying a no-hitter into the fifth. Simpson threatened in the ninth, trimming the lead to 5-3 on a wild pitch, but Brady Bell got the tying run to pop out for his fifth save of the season.
