LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan secured its second straight conference win Saturday morning, defeating the University of Dubuque 5-2 at the LSF Sports Complex. The Prairie Wolves swept four of six singles matches to improve to 3-1 in American Rivers Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dubuque's top duo took the early advantage with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, but NWU responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 3. Gavin Nichols and Tyler Blair edged their opponents 6-4, while Ian Armbrust and Glenn McChristian rolled to a 6-0 shutout to secure the doubles point.
The Prairie Wolves dominated singles play, winning four matches in straight sets. Nichols cruised 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2, Blair dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4, and Armbrust closed out a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 5. McChristian sealed the team win with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
Dubuque's only singles wins came at the top of the lineup, with No. 1 Gavin Murrie defeating Jacob Balfany and No. 3 Pedwar Castillo rallying for a three-set win over Sam Rademacher.
NWU (5-6, 3-1 A-R-C) returns to action next Tuesday at home against Hastings College. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
