Lincoln, NE – Nebraska Wesleyan's ninth-inning rally fell just short in a 6-4 loss to Hastings on Tuesday night at Sandhills Global Youth Complex. The Prairie Wolves (11-4) loaded the bases with two outs in the final frame, plating three runs, but couldn't complete the comeback.
How It Happened
Hastings took an early lead with a solo homer on the first pitch of the game and added another run in the second on a wild pitch. The Broncos extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly.
The game broke open in the seventh when Hastings scored three runs on a wild pitch, an RBI double and a run-scoring single.
Nebraska Wesleyan finally got on the board in the seventh when Duncan Ortega drove in Owen Duckworth on a fielder's choice. Trailing 6-1 in the ninth, the Prairie Wolves mounted a furious rally. A bases-loaded walk by Brayden Harvey, an RBI walk from Carter Betts, and another free pass by Aaron Chazin cut the deficit to 6-4. But Hastings reliever struck out Easton Johnson to end the threat.
