STORM LAKE, Iowa (March 27, 2025) — Nebraska Wesleyan's offense stalled in a 13-0 loss to Buena Vista in seven innings Thursday night, as the Beavers remained unbeaten in American Rivers Conference play.
The Prairie Wolves (11-6, 1-3 ARC) managed just two hits, singles from Tommy Fiocchi and Brady Bell, while BVU (13-4, 5-0 ARC) capitalized on five NWU errors and a 10-run fifth inning to seal the run-rule win.
How It Happened
Starter Owen Duckworth held BVU scoreless through three innings, working around traffic with two strikeouts and inducing eight groundouts. NWU's defense, however, unraveled in the fourth. A dropped fly ball in left and a throwing error at third led to two unearned runs, giving BVU a 3-0 lead.
The Beavers sent 16 batters to the plate in the fifth, scoring 10 runs on just six hits. NWU used three pitchers in the frame, with BVU taking advantage of three errors, two wild pitches, two balks, and seven free bases.
BVU starter Morgan Smith (3-0) dominated, allowing one hit over six innings with seven strikeouts. The Prairie Wolves' best chance came in the seventh when Bell singled and reached second on an error, but Eli Horner struck out to end the game.
Up Next
The teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 3:30 p.m. in Storm Lake.
