LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan Softball made a statement in their first games at the brand-new Sandhills Global Youth Complex, sweeping Grinnell in a doubleheader with back-to-back run-rule victories. The Prairie Wolves took Game 1, 12-0, behind a no-hitter from Elise Warneke, and followed it up with a 9-0 win in Game 2. Both games ended after five innings.
Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 12, Grinnell 0 (5 innings)
Elise Warneke (10-2) was untouchable in the circle, tossing a no-hitter with five strikeouts and two walks. The Prairie Wolves' offense wasted no time, plating four runs in the first inning. Hanna Roth scored on an error, followed by RBI singles from Lyndsey Roth and an RBI Sac Bunt from Val Gerlach. Jenna Kimberling capped the inning with a triple to right field, driving in another run. Kamdyn Sprunk would drive her in the next at bat.
The floodgates opened in the fourth inning as Nebraska Wesleyan scored eight runs, capitalizing on three Grinnell errors. Kimberling and Sprunk each drove in runs, while Eva Fahrnbruch delivered a two-run single to left field. The Prairie Wolves finished with nine hits, including a double from Sprunk and a triple from Kimberling.
Game 2: Nebraska Wesleyan 9, Grinnell 0 (5 innings)
The Prairie Wolves picked up where they left off in Game 2, scoring two runs in the first inning. Paige Davison tripled to center field to drive in Roth, and Lyndsey Roth followed with a sacrifice fly. Nebraska Wesleyan exploded for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Val Gerlach and an RBI single from Kimberling.
Davison continued her stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and three runs scored. Lyndsey Roth added two RBIs, while Fahrnbruch and Kimberling each contributed two hits. The Prairie Wolves' defense was flawless, committing no errors in game two.
In the circle, Fahrnbruch (5-2) was equally dominant, allowing just four hits over five innings while striking out one. Grinnell managed only four hits in the game, with no runner advancing past second base.
Nebraska Wesleyan's home opener at the Sandhills Global Youth Complex couldn't have gone better. The Prairie Wolves outscored Grinnell 21-0 across 10 innings, combining for 21 hits and committing just one error. Warneke's no-hitter in Game 1 set the tone, and the offense provided plenty of support in both contests.
