Nebraska Wesleyan Drops Conference Opener to Loras in Home Debut at Sandhills Global Youth Complex

Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan baseball opened its 2025 conference slate and debuted its new home field at the Sandhills Global Youth Complex on Saturday, but the day belonged to Loras as the Duhawks swept the doubleheader with 12-1 and 22-5 victories. Both games ended after seven innings due to the run rule.

How It Happened – Game 1 (Loras 12, NWU 1)
Loras wasted no time establishing control, scoring nine runs in the fourth inning to break open a tight game. The Duhawks capitalized on timely hitting and Nebraska Wesleyan miscues, highlighted by a three-run double and a solo homer.

The Prairie Wolves struggled to generate offense, managing just three hits in the contest. Senior Rudy Gres IV provided the bright spot, driving in Nebraska Wesleyan's only run with a seventh-inning double that scored Owen Duckworth, who had pinch-hit earlier in the frame.

Senior starter Theo Hughes (2-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs over three and two/thirds innings.

How It Happened – Game 2 (Loras 22, NWU 5)
The Duhawks' offense continued to roll in the nightcap, scoring in every inning except the second and the seventh. Loras put up a six-run fifth inning and a nine-run sixth, powered by a three-run homer and a five RBI doubles.

Nebraska Wesleyan showed life in the third inning when Easton Johnson launched a grand slam to cut the deficit to 5-4. The junior finished the game 2-for-2 with five RBIs, accounting for all of the Prairie Wolves' scoring. Duncan Ortega added a double and scored a run, while Tommy Fiocchi reached base twice and scored.

Despite the offensive spark, Nebraska Wesleyan's pitching staff couldn't slow down Loras, which tallied 20 hits in the game. Senior Robbie Ross (0-1) took the loss in his first third start of the season, allowing five runs over three innings.

The losses drop Nebraska Wesleyan to 10-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Loras improves to 12-5 (2-0 A-R-C).
