LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Wesleyan softball team opened its new home at the Sandhills Global Youth Complex with a split against #21 Midland University on Tuesday. The Prairie Wolves took Game 1 by a score of 4-2 before falling 1-0 in a tightly contested Game 2.
Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 4, Midland 2
Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Senior Paige Davison got things started with an RBI single to right field, scoring Hanna Roth, who had doubled to start the inning. Graduate Val Gerlach followed with another RBI single, and Kamdyn Sprunk added a run with a groundout to second base.
Midland responded in the sixth inning with a two-run homer, but the Prairie Wolves answered in the bottom half of the frame. Addi Duranski delivered a clutch RBI single to right field, scoring Sprunk and extending the lead to 4-2.
Graduate pitcher Elise Warneke (9-2) earned the win, allowing just three hits and two runs over seven innings while striking out four.
Game 2: Midland 1, Nebraska Wesleyan 0
The second game was a pitcher's duel, with both teams combining for just 11 hits. Midland struck first in the opening inning, as Kaitlyn Barri drove in a run with a single to pitcher.
Nebraska Wesleyan had opportunities to tie the game, including a double by Taylor Korecky in the fifth inning, but couldn't capitalize. Sophomore Eva Fahrnbruch (4-2) pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out two.

The Prairie Wolves (14-4) will return to action on Friday, March 21 for a doubleheader against Peru State with first pitch at 3 pm. Nebraska Wesleyan University will also dedicate their new home fields at Sandhills Global Youth Complex with a ceremony in between games. It will include speakers from both teams and ceremonial first pitches.
