Softball Splits Day at Space Coast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Nebraska Wesleyan University softball team opened its day Friday, defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 3-1 before falling to Baldwin Wallace University 9-1 in five innings. The Prairie Wolves now turn their attention to Saturday's doubleheader to close out their Florida trip.

How It Happened – Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 1
Nebraska Wesleyan's pitching and timely hitting propelled them to a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran in the opener.

Wisconsin Lutheran struck first in the top of the second inning, scoring on a fielder's choice. The Prairie Wolves responded in the bottom of the fifth, plating three runs to take the lead. Hanna Roth started the rally with an RBI fielder's choice, followed by Lyndsey Roth's RBI double to center field. Val Gerlach capped the scoring with a sacrifice bunt to drive in the third run.

Eva Fahrnbruch earned the win in the circle, tossing five innings of two-hit ball while allowing just one unearned run. Elise Warneke secured the save with two scoreless innings of relief. Offensively, Paige Davison and Lyndsey Roth led the way with two hits each, while Hanna Roth and Gerlach contributed key RBIs.

How It Happened – Game 2: Baldwin Wallace 9, Nebraska Wesleyan 1 (5 innings)
The Prairie Wolves struggled to keep pace with Baldwin Wallace in the nightcap, falling 9-1 in a run-rule shortened game.

Baldwin Wallace jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding one in the second and third to build a 4-0 lead. Nebraska Wesleyan's lone run came in the fourth inning when Lyndsey Roth drove in a run with an RBI double. However, Baldwin Wallace broke the game open with a three-run fourth and two-run fifth to seal the victory.

Elise Warneke took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs (six earned) over four innings. Hanna Roth and Lyndsey Roth accounted for the Prairie Wolves' only two hits in the game.

Nebraska Wesleyan wraps up its Space Coast Spring Games schedule on Saturday with two more games. The Prairie Wolves will face Grinnell College in the morning with first pitch at 9:00 a.m. They will then play Hartford in their final game in Florida at 1:30 p.m. CT.
