MELBOURNE, Fla. — Nebraska Wesleyan University's softball team continued its strong start to the season Thursday, sweeping a doubleheader at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Prairie Wolves defeated Wheaton College (Ill.) 13-3 in six innings and followed it up with a 12-3, five-inning victory over Cornell College. NWU improved to 10-2 on the season.
Game 1: Nebraska Wesleyan 13, Wheaton College 3 (6 innings)
How It Happened:
Nebraska Wesleyan struck early and often, capitalizing on Wheaton miscues and timely hitting. An error in the first inning gave NWU a 1-0 lead, and the Prairie Wolves extended it in the second. Eva Fahrnbruch drew a walk, Kenzie Heedum hit an RBI single, and Lyndsey Roth drove Heedum in with a double to make it 5-0.
Wheaton responded with three runs in the bottom of the third, but NWU quickly regained control. Paige Davison, who finished 3-for-4, singled in the fourth to spark a rally. The Prairie Wolves broke the game open in the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits. Davison and Val Gerlach delivered RBI singles, Addi Duranski drew a bases-loaded walk, and Reagan Kjeldgaard capped the inning with a two-run double.
Natalie Reeder got the start in the circle, allowing three runs over 3.2 innings. Elise Warneke was lights out in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

How It Happened:
Lyndsey Roth was the star of the nightcap, driving in four runs on three hits. She opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI double, and after Cornell tied it in the third, NWU erupted for four runs in the bottom half. Roth RBI doubled again, Taylor Korecky added an RBI double, and Reagan Kjeldgaard singled in one more to make it 5-1.
Cornell plated two runs in the fourth, but NWU put the game out of reach in the fifth. Roth's two-run single highlighted a five-run inning, and Jenna Kimberling's two-RBI single triggered the run rule.
Eva Fahrnbruch started in the circle, allowing three runs over 3.1 innings, while Elise Warneke closed the door with 1.2 scoreless innings for the save.
