HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Half: Nebraska Wesleyan opened the game hot from beyond the arc as
Seth Newton and
Amun-Ra Collins combined to go 3-3 as NWU built an early 11-5 advantage. Newton would add a jump shot before a
Neal Mosser three made the score 16-10. The Black and Gold continued to shoot well from down town as
Devin Holmon and
Nick Howard hit back to back three pointers as Nebraska Wesleyan stretched its lead to 12. Luther answered with a short 4-2 stint before three from
Payson Gillespie and
Neal Mosser put the Prairie Wolves up 30-14. After trading lay ups, Luther went on a 5-0 run to cut NWU's lead to 11. Nebraska Wesleyan quickly stole momentum back with threes from
Seth Newton and
Nick Howard to retake a 17 point edge. Luther would close the first half on a 13-8 run as NWU carried a 46-34 lead into the locker room. Nebraska Wesleyan shot a blistering 64.71% from three point range in the first half, with 33 of the team's points coming from beyond the arc.
2nd Half: The two teams traded threes in the early stages of the second half, with Luther cutting the Prairie Wolf lead to nine twice before three point shots from
Jared Townsley and
Christian Winn.
Nick Howard grew the NWU lead to 14 on a tip in from
Nick Howard. While Luther answered with a lay up,
Christian Winn and
Nick Howard put the Black and Gold up by 59-42. Both teams would score 11 points over the remaining 12 minutes of the game as Nebraska Wesleyan earned a 70-53 win.
