Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball opened its 2025 campaign with a 77-62 loss to McPherson College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter: Nebraska Wesleyan and McPherson went back and forth in the first quarter with neither team able to take control. The Prairie Wolves were rolling early as a three pointers from
Brynn Sebek and
Anastyn Pettlon gave NWU an 11-10 lead. However the Bulldogs countered with a 6-2 run to go ahead 16-13. Sebek would knock down her second three of the quarter to tie the game. NWU would be outscored 6-3 over the remaining two minutes as McPherson held a 22-19 lead.
Second Quarter: Nebraska Wesleyan started hot in the second quarter as
Peyton Tritz,Â
Anastyn Pettlon, and
Carney Black powered a 10-2 run as NWU grabbed a 29-24 lead. The Bulldogs retook the lead with a 11-2 run of their own before a
Brynn Sebek three cut the deficit to one. The Bulldogs would score the games next five points beforeÂ
Anastyn Pettlon beat the buzzer to make the score 40-36 at halftime.
Third Quarter: Peyton Tritz led the Black and Gold in the early moments of the third quarter, scoring five of NWU's first eight points as the Prairie Wolves took a 44-40 lead at the 7:41 mark. The two teams continued to exchange buckets from there before a late three gave the Bulldogs a 57-53 lead as the game went to the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter: The Bulldogs blew the game open with a 9-0 run to begin the fourth quarter. The Prairie Wolves rallied back with lay ups from
Carney Black and
Breeley King to cut the Bulldog lead to nine. After a Bulldog basket,
Brynn Sebek brought the Prairie Wolves within eight with a three point shot. That is the closest NWU would get as the Bulldogs closed the game on a 9-2 run.Â
