Slow Fourth Quarter Derails Prairie Wolves in Loss to Cornell

Mount Vernon, IA - After three quarters of back and forth basketball, Nebraska Wesleyan struggled to find its rhythm in the fourth quarter in a 62-48 loss to Cornell.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter:
Cornell blitzed Nebraska Wesleyan early with a blistering three point barrage that put the Rams ahead 9-3. Threes from Anastyn Pettlon and Peyton Tritz evened the score, before a Carney Black lay up gave the Black and Gold an 11-9 lead. Cornell quickly retook a 13-11 advantage before Pettlon knocked down her second three to give NWU a one point lead. The Rams closed the quarter on a 4-0 run and held a 17-14 lead as the game progressed to the second quarter.
Second Quarter: Cornell scored the first nine points of the second quarter to build a 12 point advantage, but Brynn Sebek and Peyton Tritz countered with consecutive threes to cut the Ram lead to six. After two straight baskets put the Rams up by 10, Nebraska Wesleyan closed the half on an 8-4 run to make the score 34-28.
Third Quarter: Cornell started quickly in the second half, scoring the first five points to retake a double digit lead. However, Nebraska Wesleyan refused to go quietly as an Alison Davis layup kick-started a 13-2 run that tied the game at 41. Cornell would score the game's next four points but a last second Peyton Tritz three cut the Ram lead to one.
Fourth Quarter: Cornell opened the fourth quarter with a freethrow, before a Carney Black layup evened the game at 46. From there it was all Cornell, as the Rams scored 16 of the games final 18 points to secure a 62-48 win.
