Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Falls to 1-2 in Gritty Loss to St. Scholastica

Storm Lake, IA - Nebraska Wesleyan dropped to 1-2 after losing to the College of St. Scholastica in the final game of the Central Bank Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Nebraska Wesleyan started hot with Christian Winn and Jared Townsley each knocking down threes while Amun-Ra Collins chipped in a layup as NWU built an 11-5 lead. The Saints answered with four straight points before Seth Newton answered with a triple of his own. The teams continued to trade threes with Neal Mosser and Payson Gillespie answering each of CSS attempt to take the lead. The Prairie Wolves then went on a 13-8 run to grow a 33-24 lead. After a brief four point run from College of St. Scholastica, NWU counted with an 11-5 run which grew the lead to 44-33. The Saints closed the first half on an 8-0 run to cut Nebraska Wesleyan's lead to three. 
Second Half: St.Scholastica took their first lead of the game with a 4-0 burst out of halftime. Christian Winn helped NWU retake the lead with consecutive baskets before Nick Howard put the Black and Gold ahead by five with a mid-range jumper. The Saints answered with five consecutive points, but Howard again stepped up and drilled a three point shot to give NWU a 53-50 advantage. Howard's three was apart of a 9-3 run that gave the Prairie Wolves a 59-53 lead. Back to back threes by the Saints tied the game at 59 but Christian Winn again scored a clutch basket to give the Prairie Wolves a 61-59 lead. After College of St. Scholastica retook a two point edge, Devin Holmon and Neal Mosser hit consecutive baskets to flip momentum back in NWU's favor. A pair of free throws from Kason Simpson coupled with a Christian Winn layup gave the Prairie Wolves a 70-63 lead with just under six minutes to play. The Saints countered with an 8-2 run to make the score 72-71. A Neal Mosser free throw and Nick Howard lay up pushed NWU ahead 75-71, but the Saints found their rhythm late, scoring the game's final seven points.
