Women's Soccer Defeated By Luther

Decorah, IA - Nebraska Wesleyan was defeated by Luther, 1-0, Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves now sit at 3-7-5 overall, and 1-4-2 in A-R-C play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half:
Nebraska Wesleyan started strong on both offense and defense with Amanda Olivas, Ryleigh Singh, and Averie Hike each firing off one shot in the first 16 minutes of the game, while Jena Schultz made two saves during the same period of time. Then at 20:51, Luther broke the ice as Riley Anderson snuck a shot past Schultz to put the Norse up 1-0. The Norse sought to grow their lead just minutes later, but were denied as Schultz made her third save of the half. The teams would each take two shots over the final 18 minutes of the half, with none finding the back of the net as Luther led 1-0 at the break.

Second Half: Luther resumed its offensive attack in the early stages of the second half, but Jena Schultz made a key save as the Prairie Wolf defense stood tall and kept the score 1-0. After withstanding the Norse, NWU went on the attack as Averie Hike missed the net on a shot at the 56:06 mark. Then after a Luther shot missed wide, Faith Forehand nearly tied the game at one, but Luther's Elisabeth Queoff made a save to keep NWU scoreless. Minutes later, Jena Schultz was the one making a key save as she stopped Riley Anderson to keep the match within one point. From that point, both defenses took over as both teams failed to record a shot over the ensuing 20 minutes. Then at 86:55, Jena Schultz once again rose to the occasion, stopping Lauren Linkletter. However, NWU was unable to find the game tying goal as Luther earned a 1-0 win.
