Lincoln, NE - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to Central College, 2-0, on senior day, Saturday afternoon. The loss drops NWU to 2-6-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half: Nebraska Wesleyan was firing on all cylinders early, with
Averie Hike take five shots in the first 12 minutes. After surviving NWU's offensive attack, Central flipped the switch offensively, outshooting NWU 11-0 over the ensuing 20 minutes, with
Jena Schultz making three tough saves to keep the score tied at zero. The Dutch finally broke the Black and Gold wall with a goal in the 34th minute. Just 19 seconds after the Central goal,
Madison Bohling had an opportunity to tie the game, but missed over the top of the net. Five minutes later, Central scored its second goal of the half in the 39th minute. The remainder of the half was scoreless as Central took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Second Half: The Prairie Wolves came out hot offensively out of half time, with
Emily Abeyta,
Amanda Olivas, and
Lexi Jantzen each recording shots in the opening seven minutes. However, Central's Zoey Sizemore made two saves to keep NWU scoreless. The remainder of the game saw NWU go silent on offense, as Central held a 10-1 advantage in shots over the remaining 35 minutes.
Jena Schultz was excellent for Nebraska Wesleyan, as she made four second half saves.
