HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half:
Max Matthies got Nebraska Wesleyan going early, chipping in his fifth goal of the season at the 2:37 mark. The Prairie Wolves almost extended their lead to 2-0 twice in the ensuing 10 minutes, with Matthies and Pisasale each putting shots on goal that were saved by Central's Morgan Finkenbinder. After Finkenbinder's second save, Central went on the attack offensively, firing five shots in a seven minute window, with two finding their way to NWU's Graedon Hilton, who made both saves. The remaining 20 minutes of the first half saw both offenses struggle to get going as NWU carried a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Second Half: Nebraska Wesleyan put pressure on Central early in the second half, with Franklyn Herasme and Isaac Havemeier each taking a shot, with both failing to find the back of the net. Then, Matthies made his presence felt again, finding Herasme who put the shot past Finkenbinder to give NWU a 2-0 lead. The Prairie Wolves continued to pepper Central, taking three more shots in the ensuing five minutes. However the game flipped after Central made substitutions, as the Dutch went on to tie the game with goals in the 64th and 66th minutes. Following the goal, the two teams went back and forth, combining for seven shots over the next 22 minutes. However the game ended in heartbreak as Central scored a goal at 89:48 to claim the win.
