LINCOLN, Neb. (Oct. 14, 2025) – Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer earned a historic result Tuesday night at Abel Stadium, battling Wartburg to a 1–1 draw in American Rivers Conference play. The Prairie Wolves secured their first-ever result against the Knights, since joining the A-R-C marking a massive point in the conference standings.
With the draw, NWU moves to 2–5–5 overall and 0–2–2 in A-R-C play, while Wartburg sits at 6–7–1 and 2–1–1 in league action. Despite facing a relentless Wartburg attack, the Prairie Wolves' defensive organization and timely goalkeeping from senior Jena Schultz proved the difference down the stretch.
How It Happened
First Half
Nebraska Wesleyan opened the match with early pressure, creating looks in the third and 10th minutes from Emily Abeyta and Faith Forehand. Wartburg countered in the 22nd and 23rd minutes but couldn't find the frame. Schultz made her first save of the evening in the 25th minute to deny the Knights and keep things scoreless.
Wartburg earned consecutive corner kicks in the closing minutes of the half, but Schultz and the Prairie Wolves' backline held firm to send the match into halftime locked at 0–0.
Second Half
The Knights broke through first in the 51st minute with a high strike to the upper right corner, taking a 1–0 lead. Schultz immediately came up with another big save a minute later to prevent a two-goal deficit.
The Prairie Wolves responded with urgency. In the 57th minute, Lexi Jantzen nearly found the equalizer, forcing a leaping save from the Wartburg keeper. That persistence paid off in the 71st minute when Jantzen connected with senior Mady Schoffstall, who buried her first career goal to even the score at 1–1.
Wartburg pushed hard late, recording shots on goal in the 80th, 86th, and 90th minutes, but Schultz was lights-out in goal, turning away each attempt to preserve the draw.
