DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1–1 draw on the road at the University of Dubuque Saturday afternoon at Oyen Field, a crucial American Rivers Conference point against one of the league's top sides.
The Prairie Wolves battled through long stretches of pressure from the Spartans but capitalized on their moment midway through the second half. In the 54th minute, junior forward Averie Hike broke free and buried her team-leading seventh goal of the season to give NWU a 1–0 lead.
Dubuque equalized in the 77th minute when they converted off a cross, but the Prairie Wolves' defense, led by goalkeeper Jena Schultz held strong to close out the draw. Schultz was outstanding between the posts, making nine saves against 24 Spartan shots, including several in the closing minutes to preserve the point.
Despite being outshot 24–4 and conceding 18 corner kicks, Nebraska Wesleyan's back line stayed composed and organized, blocking lanes and clearing dangerous crosses all afternoon. Emily Jasa, Payten Smith, and Emma Parker anchored the defensive effort, while Hike's pace up top provided the counterattack spark the Wolves needed.
Head coach Robert Lynch's squad now moves to 2-5-4 overall and 0-2-1 in A-R-C play, while Dubuque stands at 5-1-6.
