Men's Basketball Rallies to Defeat Buena Vista

LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball got behind early, but rallied late in a 75-67 victory over A-R-C foe Buena Vista, Wednesday night. With the win, Nebraska Wesleyan moves to 13-4 on the season, and improves to 6-2 in conference play, while Buena Vista drops to 9-8 and 4-4 in league action.

How It Happened

The two teams traded baskets early with Nebraska Wesleyan taking a quick 3-2 lead on a Jack Groeteke three pointer. From there, the Beavers took command, and built an 11-6 lead and forced NWU to use a timeout with just over 15:00 minutes remaining in the first half. Nebraska Wesleyan responded out of the time out with a Jack Groeteke three pointer which cut the Beaver lead to three. While Nebraska Wesleyan continued to battle, Buena Vista kept the Prairie Wolves within arms reach and grew their lead to 30-20 on a three point shot with 8:23 remaining in the half. From there, Nebraska Wesleyan rallied, going on a 7-0 run over the next four minutes. The Beavers again answered, this time going on a 7-2 run to build a 37-29 lead with just under three minutes to play. The two teams would go on to trade baskets over the final 2:30, and Buena Vista brought a 46-36 lead into the locker room.

The two teams continued to trade blows in the early stages of the second half, with Nebraska Wesleyan cutting the lead to single digits multiple times, only to see Buena Vista answer back with a bucket. The Beavers seemingly grabbed control of the game on a three point shot that made the score 63-49, with just over eight minutes to play. However, Nebraska Wesleyan was not going to go quietly as Carter Glenn answered the three point shot with a quick layup to cut the lead to 12. Just over a minute later, Andrew Brewer came up with a steal and finished with a lay up on the offensive end to make the score 63-53. After forcing a couple of stops on defense, Carter Glenn came up big again with a quick five point burst that cut the lead to five. After Buena Vista answered with a bucket, Nebraska Wesleyan put the hammer down, going on a 17-2 run over the remaining four minutes to earn a hard fought, come from behind victory.
