LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan men's basketball delivered a commanding performance against Wartburg, securing an 86-61 victory Saturday afternoon at Snyder Arena.
How it Happened
The Prairie Wolves set the tone early, opening with a 9-2 run fueled by Jack Groeteke's three-pointer to open the game and buckets from Carter Glenn and Conner Brown. NWU's suffocating defense forced Wartburg into poor shooting from deep (12.5% in the first half), while the Prairie Wolves converted on 58.8% of their field goals.
A 9-0 NWU run at the end of the first half, highlighted by a huge three-pointer from Christian Winn, extended the lead to twenty. The Prairie Wolves entered halftime with a commanding 48-26 advantage, thanks to dominant inside play and a strong bench effort.
Wartburg attempted a rally early in the second half, trimming the lead to 19 with an 10-5 spurt. However, NWU responded with a balanced attack, with six players scoring during a six-minute stretch to stretch the lead to a game-high 36 points.
The Prairie Wolves controlled the game on both ends, dominating the paint with 42 points and scoring 14 off fast breaks. Defensively, they forced 16 Wartburg turnovers and held them to just 33.9% shooting overall.
