Women's Soccer Returns to Abel Stadium for Home Opening Weekend

LINCOLN, Neb. (September 6th, 2024) - After a successful 2-1-0 start to the season during a three-game road stretch, the Nebraska Wesleyan women's soccer team returns to Abel Stadium for their home opener.

LOCATION, GAME TIME, LIVE STREAM & LIVE STATS
Nebraska Wesleyan's home opener will be against Cornell College, on Friday, September 6th, at 7:00 p.m. After a rest day on Saturday, the Prairie Wolves will host Concordia College on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Both match will take place at Abel Stadium, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Nebraska Wesleyan's team1sports page will live stream both games. Nebraska Wesleyan will also provide live stats.

ABOUT THE PRAIRIE WOLVES
Nebraska Wesleyan (2-1, 0-0 A-R-C) is coming off a 1-0 victory over York University, with Amanda Olivias scoring the game's only goal in the 83rd minute. Goalkeeper Jena Schultz made seven saves to secure her second shutout of the season. The Prairie Wolves are averaging three goals per game and have been strong defensively, allowing only one goal in three matches. Nebraska Wesleyan has fired 46 shots, with 30 on target, and tallied six assists.

HEAD COACH KEVIN LEBAHN
Kevin Lebahn is in his second season at the helm of Nebraska Wesleyan, holding a 4-13-2 record. Prior to NWU, Lebahn was an assistant coach for the Iowa Western men's soccer team, which won the NJCAA Division I national championship in 2021.

DEFENSE IS KEY
Nebraska Wesleyan's defense has been stellar this season, allowing just 0.33 goals per game, which is third-best in the American Rivers Conference. A major reason for their success is limiting opponents' shots on goal. Out of 13 total shots faced, only one has resulted in a goal, thanks to Jena Schultz's impressive .917 save percentage.

Cornell College (1-0, 0-0 MWC) enters Friday's match after a shutout win over Mount Mary. The Rams have scored 11 goals without conceding any. In their last game, Cornell took 50 shots, 26 of which were on goal, and added two assists.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST CORNELL COLLEGE
This will be the fourth meeting between Nebraska Wesleyan and Cornell College, with NWU leading the series 3-0. The Prairie Wolves last defeated the Rams 5-0 on September 1, 2019, in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

SCOUTING THE COBBERS
Concordia College (1-1, 0-0 MIAC) comes into the weekend following a 2-0 loss to Simpson. The Cobbers will face Cornell College on Saturday, September 7, before taking on Nebraska Wesleyan. Concordia is averaging 0.5 goals per game and allowing one goal per match. They have taken 15 shots, eight of which were on target.
