Clutch Saves Help Women's Soccer Defeat Northwestern

LINCOLN, Neb. (September 11, 2024) – A second-half goal from Averie Hike and three clutch saves in the final minute by Amber Pyle proved to be the difference in Nebraska Wesleyan's 2-1 victory over Northwestern on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan came out strong on the offensive end, firing six shots in the first 15 minutes, culminating in a 13th-minute goal by Averie Hike. After this early push, the Prairie Wolves' offense slowed, managing just three more shots for the remainder of the half. Northwestern tied the match less than 10 minutes later with a goal in the 22nd minute. The Red Raiders continued to press, taking four more shots in the half, but none found the back of the net.

After regrouping at halftime, the Black and Gold came out firing again in the second half, taking six shots before the 60-minute mark. One of those was another goal from Averie Hike in the 51st minute. Both offenses quieted down after that until a late surge from Northwestern in the 89th minute. However, Amber Pyle stood tall, making three crucial saves to secure the 2-1 victory for Nebraska Wesleyan.
