HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan had an intense season opening victory, winning 8-0 against Principia College in Elsah, Il. on August 31, 2024. The Prairie Wolves had their first goal of the game in the middle of the first half with
Averie Hike hitting the net after an assist by
Emma Parker at the 26:57 mark.
The black and gold were able to get three more goals in the first half, both assisted and unassisted. The second goal of the game was by
Hannah Churchill, unassisted, at the 30:06 mark.
Natalie Cummins and
Bella Slaydon each had their own goals in the last ten minutes of the half, with assists by
Averie Hike and
Ava Reed, respectively, ending the half, 4-0.
The Prairie Wolves stayed on top in the second half, not letting the Panthers get a goal and extended their lead.
Averie Hike, assisted by
Amanda Olivas, and
Emma Parker, unassisted, each scored a goal in the 48th minute of the game to make the score 6-0.
Nella Castaneda made her debut on the women's soccer team, scoring a goal unassisted at the 71:37 mark.
Aniaya Reed, assisted by
Faith Forehand, cemented the win for the Prairie Wolves with a goal in the final minutes. The ball hit the back of the net at the 87:42 mark.
Nebraska Wesleyan recorded a total of 31 shots, nineteen being on target. Principia had four total shots with 3 of them being on target. The teams each managed five corner kicks apiece.
