Baseball Swept by Buena Vista

Lincoln, Neb. (April 23rd, 2024)- Nebraska Wesleyan's baseball team was swept by Buena Vista on Tuesday. The Beavers took game one 8-3, and game two 12-3.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A Jake Gerardis sacrifice fly gave Nebraska Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the third inning.
  • Buena Vista took the lead by scoring three runs in the fifth inning.
  • The Beavers extended their lead by scoring two in the top of the seventh. In the bottom half of the inning, Matthew Brown scored on a fielders choice. Then Max Bugbee scored on a sacrifice fly from Brady Bell.
  • Buena Vista would go on to score three more runs in the ninth to widen the lead. Then the Beavers held NWU scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to secure an 8-3 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After four scoreless innings, Buena Vista broke the game open by scoring four runs in the fifth. 
  • The Beavers would tack on three more in the sixth.
  • In the seventh, Buena Vista grew its lead to 11-0 by scoring four more runs. Nebraska Wesleyan would respond by scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first run came courtesy of a Jason English RBI double that scored Carter Betts. English and Cody Heidenreich would score on an error by Buena Vista's third basemen.
  • The Beavers would add one more run to their total in the eighth, and hold Nebraska Wesleyan scoreless in the eighth and ninth to earn a 12-3 victory.
