LINCOLN, Neb. (April 5, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to the Kohawks of Coe College, 15-14, on Friday afternoon to move to 8--18 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After giving up a run in the first inning, the Prairie Wolves offense answered back with seven straight of their own, 7-1. Nebraska Wesleyan capitalized on defensive mishaps, crossing four runs on three Coe errors. Aaron Chazin was the highlight of the inning, with a double to lead things off and an RBI single to follow.
- The Kohawks moved within one after big innings in the second and fourth, 7-6.
- Jake Gerardis gave the Black and Gold some insurance in the fifth with a single to left field, scoring Carter Betts from third, 8-6.
- With a lengthy sixth inning, Coe found themselves in the lead for the first time since the first inning, 11-8.
- Nebraska Wesleyan rattled off four runs in the eighth to regain control. It was Chazin again who created momentum for NWU. The junior outfielder got one to fall in right field to score two, 14-11.
- Max Brammier looked to close the door in the ninth inning for the Prairie Wolves but was dealt a tough task facing the Kohawk's heart of the lineup. Coe College tied things up with a sacrifice fly to right field and recorded the go-ahead run off an error, 15-14.
- In the final at-bat of the game, NWU's Max Bugbee was called out on strikes.
- Tyson Romero pitched five innings for the Black and Gold, giving up four earned runs on six hits and striking out five batters.
- Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 8-18 overall on the season and 1-9 in conference play.
