Softball Ups Winning Streak to Ten

LINCOLN, Neb. (April 1, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan softball swept College of Saint Mary (Neb.) on Monday evening. The Prairie Wolves outscored the Flames 21-1 across 13 innings of play.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Val Gerlach launched a pitch over the outfield fence in her first at bat of the night to give Nebraska Wesleyan the early lead, 3-0. Gerlach's home run helped her surpass Michell Forsberg '95 to become Nebraska Wesleyan softball's career home run leader (14).
  • Taylor Korecky tacked on two more runs with another home run in the fourth inning, 5-0.
  • Bre Schneidewind kept the bats hot in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left, 6-0. 
  • Struggles in the field for the Flames allowed four more runners to cross home plate for the Black and Gold, 10-1.
  • Senior pitcher Elise Warneke dominated in the circle for the Prairie Wolves. She allowed just seven hits, one earned run, and struck out 10 batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a commanding lead in the first inning, entering the bottom half of the inning with a 10-0 lead.
  • Sami McDonald started the scoring with a three-run double in the opening moments of the game. Coach Mary Yori's squad would then add seven more runs, highlighted by RBI doubles from Addi Duranski and Amber Kosmicki
  • After two innings of no runs, Amber Kosmicki secured a multi-hit game with an RBI single in the fourth to put a close to the evening, 11-0. 
  • Eva Fahrnbruch got the nod in the pitcher's circle for the Prairie Wolves. The freshman recorded the second complete game shutout of her career while striking out five.

Nebraska Wesleyan will play the first conference games of the season against Loras College on Saturday, April 6th. The games will be played at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
