HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA. (March 9, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan falls short of a final four berth with a loss to Hampden-Syndey College in the Quarter Finals of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball tournament. 

HOW IT HAPPENED    

  • A sluggish beginning from the Prairie Wolves saw the Tigers take an early 6-0 lead. However, a three-pointer from the Lincoln native, Carter Glenn, put Nebraska Wesleyan on the board, 6-3. 
  • Hampden-Sydney's Adam Brazil remained a threat for NWU, going 4-6 from beyond the arc with 15:06 left in the first half, bringing the score to 15-3. 
  • Not allowing the gap to grow, the 6-11 forward Jack Groeteke stepped out for a corner three, followed by a layup from Carter Glenn, cutting the deficit to nine points, 19-10. 
  • Maintaining the momentum, the Prairie Wolves went on an 8-0 run, reducing the Tigers' lead to 19-13 after a driving layup from Peter Lash
  • With ball movement playing a crucial factor for NWU, a jumper from the foul line by Andrew Brewer brought the score to 17-23. 
  • With the energy in the arena running high, a technical foul on the Tigers sent Peter Lash to the line, going 2-2, bringing the score to 27-19 with 4:42 left in the first half. 
  • As the final minutes of the first half ticked away, Nebraska Wesleyan found themselves in foul trouble, giving Hampden Sydney opportunities for back-to-back and-one plays, bringing the score to 32-20. 
  • With a minute left in the half, an assist from Carter Glenn to Landon Torneten in the paint reduced the Tigers lead to 10, followed by a pull-up jumper from Glenn, making the score 34-26 with 17 seconds on the clock. 
  • The Tigers had the upper hand in shooting during the opening half, as Hampden-Sydney went into the break with a 36-26 lead. 
  • Early in the second half, a step-back jumper from Peter Lash cut the gap to nine, 29-38, with 18:20 to play. 
  • Fouls continued to pose a challenge for the Prairie Wolves, as Jack Groeteke received his fourth foul with 16:30 remaining, sending Davidson Hubbard to the line, 43-29. 
  • A second technical foul on the Tigers sent Peter Lash to the line, 45-30. 
  • With 12:27 to play, a driving layup from Peter Lash narrowed the deficit to 17, making the score 51-34. 
  • Emerging from a media timeout, a three-pointer from Andrew Brewer, coupled with an and-one opportunity from Carter Glenn, brought the score to 51-40 with 10:43 remaining. 
  • NWU continued to make plays down the stretch, embarking on a 10-0 run. Seth Newton found himself at the line, going 2-2 to bring the score to 51-42 with 10:16 remaining. 
  • Despite the Tigers' lead, Carter Glenn continued to elevate the Prairie Wolves, hitting a deep three to make the score 57-48. 
  • Coming out of a media timeout, Seth Newton found his way to the rim, making the score 61-52 with 5:31 remaining in the second half. 
  • With 2:21 to play, a drive to the basket from Conner Brown led to an and-one opportunity, cutting the gap to nine, 65-56. 
  • A hook shot from Landon Torneten brought the score to 67-60 with just :27 remaining on the clock. 
  • However, as the final seconds dwindled in the second half, Dale Wellman's squad couldn't regain momentum, ultimately leading to Hampden-Sydney's victory with a final score of 68-60. 
  • The Prairie Wolves ended their remarkable season with a record of 26-5, making the Elite Eight for the first time since the 2017–18 season.
