Softball Extends Winning Streak to Four with Victories Over Marian and Penn State Berks

Lincoln, Neb.- Nebraska Wesleyan softball extended its winning streak to four today with victories over Marian and Penn State Berks. The Prairie Wolves are now 6-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sami MacDonald got Nebraska Wesleyan going early with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
  • Hanna Roth made the game 3-0 with an RBI single in the second. 
  • Hanna Roth picked up her second RBI of the game on a two out double to make the game 4-0 Prairie Wolves.
  • Amber Kosmicki blew the game open with a three run home run in the fifth. After five innings of play, Nebraska Wesleyan led 7-0.
  • The Sabres would battle back with two runs in the top of the sixth to cut into Nebraska Wesleyan's lead. However the Prairie Wolves would quickly grow their lead back to seven with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The first occurred on a Jenna Kimberling ground out which scored Kenzie Heedum. The second came on a Val Gerlach RBI single. 
  • Marian rallied in the seventh, scoring four runs to cut Nebraska Wesleyan's lead to three but could not find enough offense to tie the game. Nebraska Wesleyan won the game 9-6.
  • Rylee Pangborn earned this victory. She went 5.1 innings and allowed two earned runs while striking out three and walking two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nebraska Wesleyan started fast scoring three runs in the top of the first. Jenna Kimberling got the Prairie Wolves going with an RBI ground out that scored Hanna Roth. Paige Davison would score later in the inning after a wild throw. Val Gerlach put the finishing touches on the inning with an RBI single that scored Lyndsey Roth.
  • A sacrifice fly from Sami MacDonald extended Nebraska Wesleyan's lead in the third inning. The Prairie Wolves would add another run on a sacrifice bunt by Val Gerlach. After three innings, NWU led 5-0.
  • Penn State Berks scored their only runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth. 
  • A three run home run from Jenna Kimberling opened the game up for Nebraska Wesleyan in the seventh. Later in the inning, Lyndsey Roth hit a two-run home run to make the score 10-2. Megan Bradford would add another run with an RBI single. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan shut down Penn State Berks in the bottom half of the inning to earn an 11-2 victory.

Nebraska Wesleyan will play two games on Thursday, March 7th. The first is against Geneva College, with first pitch set for 11:30 a.m. The second is against Wittenberg University, with first pitch set for 1:45 p.m.
