Baseball Swept by Central College

LINCOLN, Neb. (March 30, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to 7-10 on the season following two losses to Central College on Saturday. The Prairie Wolves lost game one 5-2, and game two 10-9.

GAME ONE
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless innings, Central took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
  • The Dutch extended their lead with one run in the sixth. 
  • Central went up 5-0 with two runs in the eighth.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan tried to rally in the ninth as Jason English would score on a Thomas Fiocchi RBI double. Later in the inning, Max Bugbee scored on an Aaron Chazin ground out. The Prairie Wolves were unable to score any more runs as Central earned the final outs to secure the victory. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWO
  • Central controlled the first eight innings of game two, leading 8-0 after the top of the eighth inning.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan roared back scoring five runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Carter Betts got the Prairie Wolves on the board with an RBI single, then Brayden Scholfield made the score 8-2 with an RBI single. Betts and Scholfield would score on an error that occurred on a hit by Aaron Chazin. A Jake Gerardis ground out made the score 8-5. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan continued to fight in the ninth. First, Owen Machal launched an RBI double that scored Brady Bell.  The Evan Kling drew a bases loaded walk which made the game 8-7. Jack Carver would score the tying run on a fielders choice. 
  • Central retook a 9-8 lead by scoring one run in the top of the 10th. Duncan Ortega responded by scoring on a wild pitch. 
  • The Dutch would score one run and hold NWU scoreless in the 11th to secure the victory and series sweep.
