Softball's Mary Yori Earns 900th Career Win in Sweep of Peru State

Lincoln, Neb.- Nebraska Wesleyan softball swept Peru State on Wednesday afternoon. Head Coach Mary Yori earned her 900th career victory in the Prairie Wolves' 3-1 game one victory. Nebraska Wesleyan picked up a 9-5 victory in game two to extend its winning streak to eight games. 

GAME ONE 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After two scoreless innings, a Val Gerlach RBI single gave Nebraska Wesleyan a 1-0 lead in the third. 
  • In the fourth inning, the Prairie Wolves gained a 2-0 advantage courtesy of a Hanna Roth RBI double.
  • Taylor Korecky gave NWU a 3-0 with an RBI single in the fifth.
  • Peru State responded with one run in the sixth, but the Bobcats were unable to mount a comeback and Nebraska Wesleyan took game one, 3-1.

Head coach Mary Yori earned her 900th career victory in game one, and her 165th at Nebraska Wesleyan. Prior to taking the job at NWU, Yori compiled 459 wins at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and another 276 victories at Colorado State. 

GAME TWO
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first inning was filled with offensive fire power as both teams had no trouble putting runs on the board. Peru State got the game started with three runs in the top of the first. Nebraska Wesleyan responded with a grand slam from Bre Schneidewind which gave the Prairie Wolves a 4-3 lead after one inning of play.
  • Hanna Roth gave Nebraska Wesleyan a two run cushion with an RBI single in the third. 
  • Peru State tied the game at five with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Prairie Wolves took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning on an Amber Kosmicki RBI single that scored two runs. Nebraska Wesleyan extended its lead on a Lyndsey Roth RBI double, which gave NWU an 8-5 advantage. Sami MacDonald added another insurance run with an RBI single that made the game 9-5.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan would hold the Bobcats scoreless in their next two at bats to secure the victory and the series sweep. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE UP NEXT
Nebraska Wesleyan will play the first two of eight consecutive road games on Saturday, March 23rd, against Midland. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Game two is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
