LINCOLN, Neb. (December 7th, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan dropped its 2024 American Rivers Conference Opener to Luther on Saturday afternoon. The Prairie Wolves now sit at 0-8 overall, and 0-1 in A-R-C play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan jumped out to a 9-4 first quarter lead. However the Norse responded with a 12-4 run to take a 16-15 lead into the second quarter. The Norse opened the second quarter on an 11-4 run, and grew their lead to eight on a three point shot with just over three minutes to play in the half. NWU quickly responded with a three point play from
Maddie Demke. However, Luther retook the momentum, closing the half on an 8-3 run. Nebraska Wesleyan continued to hang tough in the third quarter, countering each Luther basket with a made shot to keep the game withing striking range as the fourth quarter neared. Luther would go on to pull away from Nebraska Wesleyan in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Prairie Wolves 16-11 and earning a 63-47 victory.Â
Both teams were efficient from the floor, with Nebraska Wesleyan hitting a 30.8% shooting clip compared to Luther's 42.9%. Maddie Demke shined for Nebraska Wesleyan, scoring 15 points and tallying a career-high seven steals, while Carney Black reached double digit rebounds for the second consecutive game.
