LINCOLN, Neb. (November 2, 2024) – The Nebraska Wesleyan University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 win over Simpson College in the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Quarterfinals at Abel Stadium. With the victory, the Prairie Wolves advance to the A-R-C Semifinals for the first time since 2022 and will face top-seeded Luther College on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Nebraska Wesleyan took control early in the first half with an unassisted goal by Max Matthies in the 22nd minute, his third of the season. Matthies' well-placed shot beat the Simpson goalkeeper to give NWU a crucial lead. The Prairie Wolves continued to press throughout the half, testing Simpson's defense with four shots, including three on target.
Defensively, NWU remained solid, anchored by goalkeeper Zach Weis, who earned his fifth consecutive clean sheet with five saves. Weis was instrumental in handling Simpson's offensive pressure, particularly during a series of late-game corner kicks. With consistent defensive play and effective ball control, the Prairie Wolves held on for the 1-0 win to advance in the conference tournament.
