LINCOLN, Neb. (November 2, 2024) – Nebraska Wesleyan University football team dropped a 52-7 final to the University of Dubuque on a cold and cloudy afternoon at Abel Stadium. The Prairie Wolves' offense managed to find the end zone in the fourth quarter, but Dubuque's efficient passing attack proved challenging, leaving NWU with a 3-5 overall record and 2-4 in American Rivers Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dubuque jumped out to an early lead, holding Nebraska Wesleyan scoreless through the first half despite efforts by the Prairie Wolves to establish a ground game. Running back Nathan Athouris led NWU's offense with 80 yards on 21 carries, breaking through the Dubuque defense on multiple occasions but ultimately held just short of the end zone. Quarterback Gunnar Link stepped in to make several key throws, though turnovers and penalties slowed the Prairie Wolves' progress.
In the fourth quarter, Nebraska Wesleyan found the end zone with a 3-yard touchdown pass from Link to wide receiver Corbin Horner, capping off a 70-yard drive and putting NWU on the scoreboard. On defense, Antonio Martinez made a highlight interception in the fourth quarter, providing a boost to the Prairie Wolves' secondary. Despite their second-half push, NWU couldn't close the gap as Dubuque continued to build on their lead.
