STORM LAKE, Iowa (October 23, 2024) – Nebraska Wesleyan men's soccer claimed a gritty 1-0 victory over Buena Vista University on Wednesday night at J. Leslie Rollins Stadium. The Prairie Wolves improved their record to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) play with the win. Buena Vista dropped to 9-9 overall and 0-6 in A-R-C competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nebraska Wesleyan started strong, controlling possession and applying offensive pressure throughout the first half. The Prairie Wolves generated five shots, but Buena Vista's defense stood firm, preventing any scoring. Despite their efforts, the first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate, leaving the match tightly contested heading into the second half.
In the second half, Nebraska Wesleyan increased their intensity, pressing deeper into Buena Vista's territory. After several attempts, the breakthrough finally came in the 86th minute when Eli Rhodes netted his first goal of the season. Caden Tubaugh delivered a well-timed assist, allowing Rhodes to slot the ball past Buena Vista's goalkeeper and seal the victory.
The Prairie Wolves' defense was equally crucial, with goalkeeper Zachary Weis playing a key role in the shutout. Weis made four vital saves throughout the match, keeping the Beavers from gaining any momentum. Nebraska Wesleyan's defense worked together to maintain control, securing the clean sheet despite some late pressure from the Beavers.
