Football Dealt 21-14 Loss by Simpson

INDIANOLA, Iowa (October 12th, 2024) - Nebraska Wesleyan suffered a narrow 21-14 defeat to Simpson College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Prairie Wolves drop to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in American Rivers Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Simpson opened the scoring on their first drive, taking advantage of a free kick out of bounds on the opening kickoff to start at their own 35-yard line. The Storm capitalized with a seven-play, 65-yard drive, capped by a 22-yard touchdown pass. Both defenses took control for the rest of the first quarter, preventing either team from scoring.

Nebraska Wesleyan broke through early in the second quarter, taking advantage of great field position after a Simpson punt. Connor White connected with Cole Siems for a 29-yard touchdown pass, finishing off a five-play, 40-yard drive to tie the game at 7-7. Simpson responded quickly with a 71-yard touchdown pass on the next possession. Following a three-and-out by the Prairie Wolves, Simpson extended their lead with a touchdown at the end of an eight-play, 74-yard drive, making it 21-7 at halftime.

Both defenses dominated the third quarter, keeping the scoreboard quiet. Late in the fourth, Nebraska Wesleyan orchestrated an eight-play, 77-yard drive, which ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass from White to Kevin Starnes, cutting Simpson's lead to 21-14. However, Simpson's offense held firm, converting three third downs and one fourth down to run out the clock and seal the victory.
