Softball Splits with Wartburg

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1
  • The Prairie Wolves won 6-3 over Wartburg College after a late comeback and scoring four runs in the seventh inning. 
  • In the third, Emma Alfieri got NWU on the board with a solo shot to right field, 1-0.
  • The Knights bounced back and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, 1-3.
  • Later in the sixth inning, Val Gerlach homered, cutting the Prairie Wolves' deficit to one, 2-3.
  • In the seventh inning, the black and gold secured the comeback victory with four runs. Bre Schneidewind singled to right field bringing home two runners and Elise Warneke brought Schneidewind all the way around to score after an error by Wartburg's first baseman. 
  • Elise Warneke was the winning pitcher, throwing all seven innings. She gave up just three runs on five hits while striking out five. 
Game 2
  • NWU was unable to sweep the Knights, losing 7-6 after a very productive game offensively for both teams.
  • The Prairie Wolves started off strong with three runs scored in the opening frame. Sami MacDonald, Val Gerlach and Elise Warneke each brought home a run.
  • Wartburg responded with four runs of their own and put the pressure back on the Prairie Wolves.
  • The P-Wolves tried to complete another comeback late in the fifth inning, with three Prairie Wolves scoring on doubles from Sami MacDonald and Val Gerlach, 6-5.
  • Wartburg stayed tough and ended the game with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning, 7-6. 
  • Relief pitcher, Rylee Pangborn was handed the loss, just her third of the season.
