Baseball Unable to Overcome Loras

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1
  • Despite a big lead going into the sixth inning, the Prairie Wolves are unable to beat the Duhawks, losing 11-5.
  • Both teams played solid defense for the first two innings with no runs being scored. In the third inning, John Haimowitz earned an RBI single to right field.
  • The fifth inning was eventful for the NWU offense with two hits by John Haimowitz and Jason English. Two more runs were scored.
  • In the sixth inning, the Duhawks responded with a run of their own and went on to score eight runs in the eighth inning, securing the victory.
  • Starting pitcher Tyson Romero played strong, recording five strikeouts and one hit over 6.0 innings.
Game 2
  • Similar to Game 1, the Prairie Wolves got off to an early lead, only to see it evaporate to a long Loras rally.
  • NWU had a great second inning as RBI singles by Noah Unger and Jason English, as well as a sacrifice fly from Aaron Chazin helped get them out to an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Duhawks answered quickly with two runs of their own, to cut the Prairie Wolves lead to one.
  • Loras' offense continued to execute as they tacked on four more runs over the next two innings, to take a 6-3 lead. Meanwhile, the Prairie Wolves weren't able to regain the offensive momentum they built up in the second inning.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan made some noise offensively in the seventh inning. Another RBI from Jason English as well as a sacrifice fly by Alex Angele made the score 6-5 entering the eighth.
  • The Prairie Wolves made one last attempt at a rally in the ninth, as a sacrifice fly from Hunter Zielasko brought in their sixth and final run.
  • Alejandro Espinoza threw five innings for the P-Wolves. He gave up six runs and ten hits and recorded two strikeouts. Reliever Bobby Simmons came in to record two strikeouts of his own.
