Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Earns Sweep of Buena Vista

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Game one of the doubleheader saw Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista play an extra inning thriller.
  • Elise Warneke was the starting pitcher for the Prairie Wolves and pitched excellent, going all eight innings and striking out seven, while giving up four earned runs.
  • The first three innings featured a pitchers dual as neither team could score a run.
  • In the top of the fourth, Jenna Kimberling homered to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 1-0 lead.
  • Val Gerlach extended the lead to two on a solo home run in the top of the sixth.
  • Leading 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh, NWU needed just three outs to clinch a victory. However, Buena Vista rallied to tie it at two and sent the game into extra innings.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan responded in the eighth with three runs of their own. Sami MacDonald hit a two run home run to take a 4-2 lead. Bre Schneidewind hit a solo home run a few batters latter to put the Prairie Wolves up 5-2.
  • Buena Vista would not go quietly and scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth but didn't score again and Nebraska Wesleyan squeaked out a 5-4 victory.
Game 2
  • Nebraska Wesleyan used an eight run seventh inning to beat Buena Vista in a high scoring game.
  • The Prairie Wolves struck first when Jenna Kimberling scored an unearned run off a throwing error by Buena Vista. The lead was short lived however as the Beavers responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Elise Warneke hit an RBI single in the third inning to put NWU up 2-1. Just like the first, Buena Vista responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two.
  • In the top of the fourth inning, Hanna Roth hit a three run home run to give Nebraska Wesleyan a 5-2 lead.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Buena Vista hit a grand slam to take a 6-5 lead.
  • Emily Swoboda helped Nebraska Wesleyan retake the lead with a three run home run in the top of the sixth. Buena Vista responsed with one run in the bottom half of the inning.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan blew the game open in the seventh scoring eight runs.
  • The Prairie Wolves held Buena Vista to three runs in the bottom of the inning to secure a 16-10 win.
