Baseball Swept by Buena Vista

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • The first game of the doubleheader saw Nebraska Wesleyan and Buena Vista go back and forth, ultimately the Beavers won the game 7-4
  • After the first two innings, the teams were in a scoreless tie. Nebraska Wesleyan scored first on a John Haimowitz RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Buena Vista responded with two runs in the fourth, and one more in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Dylan Howell cut the deficit to one with an RBI double in the sixth. 
  • Buenva Vista answered back with two runs in both the seventh and eighth inning. 
  • In the ninth, Nebraska Wesleyan attempted to rally back. The Prairie Wolves cut the lead to four on a walk that scored Hunter Zielasko. Later in the inning, Jason English hit a sacrifice fly to score Carter Bjorkman. The rally would come up short as the Beaver defense locked down to seal the win.
  • Despite the loss, Noah Unger had a strong outing, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing 11 hits and five runs. Unger struck out four Beaver batters and issued no walks. 
Game 2
  • The Prairie Wolves started hot but struggled defensively in a 9-4 game two loss. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan came out swinging in the first inning and used Dylan Howell and Noah Unger RBIs to build a 2-0 lead.
  • The Beavers offense woke up in the second and scored two runs in the inning. Buena Vista would follow the second inning up with one run in the third and two more in the fourth. 
  • The two teams went into a pitchers dual for the next several innings and the score remained 5-2.
  • Buena Vista opened the game up in the eighth inning by scoring four runs to take a 9-2 lead.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan used a RBIs by Carter Bjorkman and Jake Gerardis to cut the deficit to 9-4. That is as close as Nebraska Wesleyan would get as Buena Vista's defense secured the win.
