Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Sweeps College of Saint Mary, Extends Winning Streak to Four

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
  • Defense, pitching, and timely hitting helped Nebraska Wesleyan earn a 5-2 victory in game one.
  • Pitcher Elise Warneke locked down the Prairie Wolf defense by throwing a 10 strike out complete game to earn her tenth victory of the season. Warneke was boosted by strong infield play and an outfield that didn't give any ground when a ball was hit its way.
  • While the Flames scored in the top of the first, the Prairie Wolves responded in the bottom of the inning on a Val Gerlach single that scored Paige Davison.
  • The score remained 1-1 until the Nebraska Wesleyan opened up a lead with three fourth inning runs. Gerlach got the party started on a solo home run and the offense followed up with RBIs from Sami MacDonald and Hanna Roth.
  • Both teams scored one run in the fifth with Addie Duranski providing the offense for NWU.
  • Both defenses settled back in after the fifth and Nebraska Wesleyan clinched its third consecutive victory.
Game 2
  • Kenna Ford's pitching, coupled with an offensive explosion propelled Nebraska Wesleyan to a 9-1 win in game two.
  • Kenna Ford pitched five innings of one hit ball to earn her first victory of the season.
  • Saint Mary took a 1-0 lead on a Sydney Griffin single in the second inning.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Paige Davison hit a two RBI single to give Nebraska Wesleyan the lead. Emma Alfieri scored Hanna Roth on a sacrifice bunt, this was followed up with a sacrifice fly from Val Gerlach.
  • In the fifth inning, Nebraska Wesleyan blew the game open. First Emma Alfieri launched an RBI double to score Davison. In the next at bat, Gerlach hit a two run home run to extend the lead to 7-1.
  • In the sixth, Addie Duranski scored on an error and Paige Davison hit an RBI double to further increase the lead.
