Baseball Topped by Westminster in Slugfest

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Tuesday afternoon in Topeka, Kansas, against Westminster College (MO), Nebraska Wesleyan blasted two home runs and five doubles, but the Bluejays' eight-run fifth inning decided the game, 16-13.
  • With three runs in the first inning, the Prairie Wolves got the game going quickly. The first NWU run crossed the plate with the aid of four walks. Christian Harris then hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded to bring home John Haimowitz and Jason English.
  • The Bluejays chipped away scoring a pair of runs in the second, and third, and one more in the fourth. English struck again in the fourth, hitting a home run, then Harris came around to score later in the inning on a Carter Bjorkman single to make it 11-5.
  • In the fifth inning, Westminster's first eight batters all reached base safely and scored, giving them their first lead of the game, 13-11.
  • With his third and fourth RBIs of the game, Harris responded in the bottom of the sixth to make it 14-13. In the seventh inning, the Bluejays scored two insurance runs to secure the victory, 16-13.
  • The Prairie Wolves utilized four different relievers after Bryson Knapp's two-inning outing, during which he allowed three hits and two runs.
  • Harris and Bjorkman both went 3-for-4 to lead the Prairie Wolves.
