Volleyball's Valiant Effort Falls Short Against Coe, 3-1

Box Score HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nebraska Wesleyan (21-8, 7-2 A-R-C) gave the Kohawks everything they could handle in a 15-25, 25-27, 25-23, 25-27 loss at Snyder Arena in Lincoln, Neb., this evening.  
  • Nebraska Wesleyan quickly established the tone for the evening, with the first Jaclyn Riedl kill putting the P-Wolves up 4-3.  Nyah Chambers followed with her own kill, putting Nebraska Wesleyan ahead 8-5.  Coe replied by going on a 20-7 run to take a 24-15 lead after a Prairie Wolf serve error set up set point.  The Kohawks scored the following point to take the set, 25-15.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan rallied back after going behind 10-6 in set two.  Addie Thomas stepped up from the outside for a kill, capping off a 6-3 rally that brought Nebraska Wesleyan back to even, 12-12. A Coe offensive blunder gave the Prairie Wolves their first lead in the set since the first few points, 19-18.  Coe tried to finish strong as it reclaimed the lead, 23-22. The match was tied at 25, before Coe took the next two points to win the set, 27-25.  
  • Nebraska Wesleyan accelerated into the third set, sprinting out to a 3-0 lead.  Thomas scored to maintain the score at 6-4, but the Kohawks would fight the rest of the way. Nebraska Wesleyan won the set, 25-23, with a 6-3 run in the final nine points.
  • In a must-see fourth set, Nebraska Wesleyan emerged as the aggressors.  The P-Wolves took a 5-4 lead after to a kill from the back row by Thomas.  Following a Riedl spike to make it 8-6, Coe went on a 7-3 run to take the lead, 13-11.   Back-to-back Prairie Wolves mishits increased the deficit to 18-15.  Thomas got several kills down the line to get back into the game at 25-all. Coe scored the final two points to win the set, 27-25.
  • The defeat ends the Prairie Wolves' streak of 398 straight days of being unbeaten at home.
  • Thomas had a match-high 17 kills to lead Nebraska Wesleyan. Thomas has now recorded 10 or more kills 24 times this season.
  • With 16 kills, Riedl joined Thomas in double digits. Riedl has scored in double digits six times in Nebraska Wesleyan's previous ten games.
  • During the match, freshman Elecea Saathoff surpassed 1,000 career assists in her first season as a Prairie Wolf. She finished the match with 49 assists and four digs.
  • Raegan Holle put up a team-best 20 digs.
