Football Drops High-Scoring Affair to the Spartans

LINCOLN, Neb. (September 30, 2023) - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to the University of Dubuque Saturday afternoon, 28-56.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Prairie Wolves fell into a hole early, allowing the Spartans to find the end zone in two of their first three drives in the first quarter, 0-14.
  • Scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, the Prairie Wolves bounced back and found themselves in the lead with 1:54 remaining in the first half. All three scores came from the arm of Carter Terry. Terry connected with Cole Siems on back-to-back touchdowns of five and 22 yards. Nathan Lindsay secured the third from 10 yards out, 21-14.
  • Dubuque was able to quickly sneak into the end zone in the final minutes of the quarter and force a tie before the break, 21-21.
  • To begin the third quarter, the Spartans' defense forced a Prairie Wolf fumble and started a streak of their own. The University of Dubuque outscored Nebraska Wesleyan University 28-0 for the next 15:43, totaling 203 yards. Throughout that time, NWU recorded 13 total yards of offense.
  • A late Evan K. Johnson touchdown wasn't enough to spark a comeback against the Spartans, and the Prairie Wolves moved to 4-2 on the year after a 28-56 loss on Saturday afternoon.
