Football Falls to Loras in Double Overtime

LINCOLN, Neb. - Nebraska Wesleyan fell to Loras College, 41-38, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Prairie Wolves fall to 4-3 (2-3) on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter was dominated by defense as neither team was able to score. Nebraska Wesleyan almost got on the board late in the quarter but had a field goal attempt blocked.
  • Loras took the ensuing possession and drove 76 yards in six plays and scored on a 29 yard touchdown pass from Evan England to Da'Mani Brown to take a 7-0 lead. 
  • The defenses continued to play stout as the teams traded punts on their next few possessions. Midway through the second quarter, Loras embarked on a long drive and had to settle for a field goal. The 34 yard attempt was no good and Nebraska Wesleyan took over on their own 20 yard line.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan used a 78 yard pass from Evan Johnson to Cole Siems to tie the game at seven. 
  • On Loras' next drive, Hunter Zentz forced a fumble, which was recovered by Diego Agosto and set the Prairie Wolves up at the Loras 35 yard line. Nebraska Wesleyan took advantage of the short field with Kevin Starnes catching a one yard touchdown pass from Evan Johnson to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
  • After forcing Nebraska Wesleyan to punt, Loras tied the game on a five yard touchdown pass from Evan England to Michael Crawford.
  • Later in the third quarter, Loras took a 21-14 lead on a 38 yard touchdown pass from Da'Mani Brown to Michael Crawford. 
  • On the first play of Nebraska Wesleyan's next possession, Evan Johnson threw a 72 yard touchdown pass to Cole Siems. The Prairie Wolves missed the PAT and the score remained 21-20.
  • After trading punts, Loras drove 55 yards in six plays and scored on an eight yard touchdown run by Jamel Britt to extend the Duhawks lead to 28-20.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan responded with a four play, 75 yard touchdown drive that was capped off by a 40 yard touchdown pass from Evan Johnson to Cole Siems. Kevin Starnes ran in the two point conversion to tie the game at 28.
  • Neither team was able to score in the remaining time and the game headed to overtime. 
  • Loras struck first in overtime on a four yard touchdown pass from Evan England to Jamel Britt. 
  • Nebraska Wesleyan tied the game on a one yard run by Trystin Myers.
  • On Nebraska Wesleyan's second overtime possession, Henry Walter kicked a 20 yard field goal to give the Prairie Wolves a 38-35 lead.
  • Loras would win the game 41-38 on an eight yard touchdown pass from Evan England to Da'Mani Brown.
