Men's Basketball Downs Duhawks

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Two American Rivers Conference heavyweights slugged it out in Snyder Arena, with Nebraska Wesleyan outlasting Loras College, 59-58.
  • A defensive battle between two teams averaging over 78 points per game, came down to the wire as Loras's Declan Ciurlik hit a jump shot to push the Duhawks lead to four with 51 seconds to play.
  • At the 25 second mark, Peter Lash splashed in two free throws to cut the Loras lead to two.
  • After a missed free throw for the Duhawks, NWU's Carter Glenn flew down the court banking in a left handed layup through contact. Glenn converted the three point play, 59-58.
  • A last second heave fell short for the Duhawks and Coach Wellman's squad escaped Saturday's contest with their ninth victory in their last twelve games.
  • Despite struggling offensively, four Prairie Wolves were able to reach double figures. Peter Lash led the way with 12 point, followed by Landon Torneten, Jack Groeteke, and Walker Andrew

COACH DALE WELLMAN'S COMMENTS:
  • "Another one of those A-R-C tight games. I'm really proud of our guys to be down by four with about forty-eight seconds to go and find a way to win. We need to keep this going, not ride too low, not ride too high and get ready for Wednesday."
