Game Recap: Football |

Football Falls Short of First A-R-C Win of the Season

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Prairie Wolves earned their first lead of the game with 4:09 remaining in the first quarter. After Austin Neufeld brought NWU within four after a 31-yard field goal, (3-7) the black and gold's defense got a stop, and quarterback Carter Terry took his offense down the field on three plays. The senior found classmate and wide receiver, Trace Leners in the endzone for a six-yard touchdown, 10-7.
  • Loras bounced right back, taking up the rest of the first quarter to go 70 yards on 13 snaps. The Duhawks finished their drive off with a one-yard quarterback keeper, 10-14.
  • Two possessions later, Trystin Myers broke free for a 36-yard run, which eventually helped set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from Carter Terry to Kaden Ewoldt on fourth down, 17-14.
  • Unfortunately, that was the last lead the Prairie Wolves saw for the rest of the game. Loras College put together four unanswered touchdowns including a scoop-and-score that would give them a 17-42 advantage with 7:45 in the third quarter.
  • Nebraska Wesleyan did everything they could to get themselves back into the game. Trystin Myers took a reception 41 yards for six points and NWU's defense forced and recovered a fumble on their own eight-yard line, 24-49.
  • In the final minutes of the ball game, back-up quarterback Evan Johnson stepped onto the field and completed a pass to Jonah Isakson in the back left corner of the endzone. Johnson's touchdown pass was the final score of the day for either team, 31-49.

HEAD COACH BRIAN KELLER'S COMMENT'S
  • "We went up against a Loras team today that has been playing well the past three weeks and has been gaining confidence each Saturday."
  • "There is not much margin for error in the A-R-C, and when you make a few mistakes against a team like Loras, you put yourself in a difficult position to win the game."
  • "We had a roughing the punter call that extended a Loras drive to a touchdown, a missed field goal, and fumbled a reception that Loras scooped and scored early in the third quarter. With evenly matched team, those mistakes become magnified and will lead to a loss."
  • "For the second week in a row, Trystin Myers turned in a solid performance running, receiving, and blocking."
  • "I liked the face that our backups put together a long scoring drive at the end of the game for us to finish on a positive note."
