2022 Prairie Wolf Preview: Cross Country

Coaching Staff:

Dr. Ted Bulling is in his 42nd year as the Director of Track and Field/Cross Country at Nebraska Wesleyan University. During his tenure, NWU has been a elite program at any level, both athletically and academically. Bulling's teams have finished in the top 10 at NCAA Championships over 60 times and his athletes have been named Academic All-Americans over 50 times.

Bulling has been at the helm of the men's cross country program since 1989 and the women's cross country program since 1994

"We are excited to get the season underway," Bulling said. "Both our men and women teams will have solid front runners, if we can develop some depth with our second wave of runners, team success will follow. The ultimate goal every year is for every single runner in the program to reach their absolute full potential for that particular season."

Bulling is accompanied by ninth-year assistant coach, Jackie McKenzie.

Top Returners (Men):

Nebraska Wesleyan's men's team is led by seniors Norbert Weijenberg and Colby Karr. Weijenberg is a two time A-R-C Championship medalist. The Netherland native has a chance to be among the top runners in the conference this year as well as in the NCAA Midwest region. Weijenberg narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Track Championship last spring in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Colby Karr has been a mainstay in NWU's Cross Country program for the past three years and has prepared well for a stellar senior season. Karr along with Weijenberg will provide outstanding senior leadership for Nebraska Wesleyan's men's team.

Top Returners (Women):

Juniors Gabby Thomas and McKenna Marsh guide the way for Nebraska Wesleyan's women's team. Thomas is an A-R-C Championship medalist and qualified for the NCAA National Championship in 2021. She comes off of a very successful track season, as she earned two medals by being a part of the first place 4 x 800 team and anchoring the third place Distance Medley team.

Just like Thomas, McKenna Marsh enters the 2022-23 season decorated in accomplishments and hardware. In 2021, She earned three A-R-C Championship medals by running in the indoor and outdoor 4 x 800 team and third place Distance Medley team. Marsh and Thomas are poised for a breakout cross-country season.
