Knox Slams Three Home Runs, NWU Routs Wartburg


Waverly, Iowa (May 6, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team beat Wartburg College, 8-3, in Waverly, Iowa to open a three-game series.

NWU went toe-to-toe with the Knights in a slugfest as the two teams combined for seven home runs. The Prairie Wolves accounted for four home runs with three coming off the bat of Kaleb Knox. At the plate, Knox was 4-for-5 with seven RBIs. The seven homers are the most by a Prairie Wolf in over 20 years and it is the most RBIs in a game since April 30, 2021.  

Evan Kling put Nebraska Wesleyan on the board, and tied the game, with a solo home run to center field in the third inning. With the homer, Kling has hit a home run in four consecutive games.  

In the fifth inning, Knox slammed a three-run home run, his first of the game, to give NWU a 4-3 advantage. Two innings later, Knox added to his total with a solo homer to left field. Knox struck again in the ninth inning with another three-run home run to pad the lead. 

Noah Unger earned the win on the mound, his third of the season. Unger went 6 â…” innings and allowed just three runs with seven strikeouts. In his last six starts, Unger has totaled 30 strikeouts and pitched at least six innings in each start. Additionally, Noah Wing picked the save in the victory. It is Wing's sixth save of the season, which is a new program record.
