Baseball Takes Game Two Against BVU


STORM LAKE, Iowa (April 20, 2022) - The Nebraska Wesleyan baseball team split its doubleheader with Buena Vista in a conference midweek doubleheader in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Beavers won game one, 8-5, and NWU won game two, 7-3.

Game One Recap
The Prairie Wolves were held scoreless through the first four innings of game one but a pair of home runs put them on top in the top of the fifth inning. Evan Kling led off the inning with a solo home run then Kaleb Knox launched another home run three at-bats later. 

BVU tied the game in the home half of the fifth inning and then took the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Beavers extended their lead to 8-2 after a five-run eighth inning. But NWU wouldn't go down quietly in the ninth inning. 

An error allowed Kling to score from third then an RBI double from Kaleb Knox made it an 8-4 game. Later in the inning, Noah Unger used a single a to plate Knox but the Prairie Wolves were unable to complete the complete.

Dylan Cox tossed seven innings in the game and struck out 10 batters. For Cox, it is the second start this season with 10 strikeouts. 

Game Two Recap
Nebraska Wesleyan opened game two with a run in the first inning. Kaleb Knox's RBI single-plated the game's first run. Two innings later, the Prairie Wolves added another run when Evan Klinger scored on a Knox groundout. 

The Beavers cut the deficit down by a run in the bottom of the fifth inning but Nebraska Wesleyan responded with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. The first run came on a John Haimowitz RBI single then Haimowitz scored three batters later on an RBI single from Zach Osbahr. 

After BVU made it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the sixth inning, NWU pulled away in the eighth inning with three runs. Osbahr knocked an RBI double to plate the inning's first run. In the next at-bat, Mason Bennett drove in another run with a single. Derek Kolbush roped an RBI single to score Osbahr for the final run. 

Riley Ward finished the game on the mound by forcing a flyout followed by a groundout and capped it with a strikeout.

UP NEXT
Nebraska Wesleyan travels to Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, April 23 for a doubleheader with the University of Dubuque.
